New Bishop for Lourdes

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Mgr Nicolas Jean RenĂ© Brouwet as the new bishop of the diocese of Tarbes and Lourdes (France).
The announcement was made by the Archbishop of Toulouse on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes at the Grotto.
On Saturday, 11 February, thousands of Lourdes pilgrims braved sub-zero temperatures to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and the World Day of Prayer for the Sick. The day marks the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady to St Bernadette in 1858.
Among the pilgrims were many pilgrimage directors from the UK who were in Lourdes to finalise details of this years' pilgrimages.
Bishop Jacques Perrier of Tarbes and Lourdes was principal celebrant at the International Mass in the St Pius X Basilica.
After the Mass, the Bishop prayed the Angelus at the Grotto. It was then announced that the Holy Father had accepted the resignation of Bishop Jacques, who has reached the retirement age, and appointed Bishop Nicolas Brouwet, Auxiliary Bishop of Nanterre, as the new Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes.
The newly appointed bishop was born 31st August 1962 and ordained priest on 27th June 1992 for the diocese of Nanterre.  He was ordained Bishop on 29th June 2008 and appointed as auxillary bishop to the diocese of Nanterre.   He will be received as Bishop in the St Pius X Basilica during Mass on Sunday, 25 March, 2012.

S.O.L.L. Summer Barbecue 30th July

Come and join us for our Summer Barbecue which will be held on 30th July 2011 from 14.30pm until 18.30pm at:

Allen Hall
28 Beaufort Street
Chelsea
London SW3 5AA

This beautiful venue is the Seminary of the Diocese of Westminster and is on the site of Saint Thomas More's Great House.

The college motto, as seen on the coat of arms, is vivamus in spe... "we live in hope". Allen Hall's varied tradition serves as an inspiration and constant reminder to those students who now live and train within its walls, and who, as so many before them, seek to dedicate their lives to God by service in the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

We hope that you will be able to join us to meet up with friends, old and new, to support the Society and bring the spirit of Lourdes to London.

Reserve your tickets from Tom Casey - £12.50 per person

See you there!

Welcome Home

Welcome home! A wonderful and uplifting pilgrimage for us all.
Thank you, Blessed Mother, for bringing us safely home and may you bring us all once again to your shrine in Lourdes.

Now is the start of our centenary year 2012!

Tuesday, 10 May 2011

It is only 17 days until our Pilgrimage to Lourdes starts. This year we will be taking over 70 assisted pilgrims to Our Lady's Shrine in the foothills of the Pyrennees. Some of us will fly from Stansted, our West Country Group from Exeter, the Massabielle Group will be making their way from Teeside by 'plane and coach and still others will be making the journey overland by train. All of us, helpers, nurses, carers, doctors, assisted and praying pilgrims will be preparing for this special week.
Our thoughts and hopes will turn to renewal - renewal of friendships, renewal of faith and commitment to Our Blessed Mother, renewal of our awareness of our vulnerability and our human condition. Each of us will be feeling a great mix of emotions as we start to pack our bags and search for our passports and EHIC Cards!
This year the pastoral theme is:
With Bernadette Praying the Our Father
During the Pilgrimage we will all be asked to write a few words of thanksgiving to the Lord for all that nourishes us and keeps us alive. The pieces of paper on which we write these thoughts will be collected and placed at the foot of the altar during the offertory.
We pray that that Our Heavenly Mother will guide and protect us on our spiritual journey and that we may return, refreshed and renewed in body and spirit.
